Learn how behavioral targeting can help your small business reach the right customers with personalized ads that resonate with their interests and preferences.

What is behavioral targeting?

Behavioral targeting is a marketing strategy used by advertisers and businesses to show ads or promotions to customers based on their online behavior, such as their search history, browsing behavior, and purchase history. The goal of behavioral targeting is to serve customers with relevant and personalized ads that are more likely to resonate with their interests and preferences, ultimately driving higher engagement and conversion rates.

In the blog, What Are the Types of Target Audience? I outlined the four types of target audiences you can use in marketing: Demographic targeting, psychographic targeting, behavioral targeting, and geographic targeting. Marketing your small business can seem overwhelming at times, but understanding the core principles of marketing will make it easier.

How is behavioral targeting used?

Let's talk about one of the most effective marketing strategies out there - behavioral targeting.

Now, you've probably experienced behavioral targeting before without even realizing it. You know how it goes—you visit a website, maybe you're looking at a pair of shoes or a new phone, and then suddenly, you start seeing ads for that exact same product all across the internet. That's retargeting, and it's a key part of behavioral targeting.

So, what is behavioral targeting exactly? Well, with this strategy, you can take advantage of the user's search history to target them even further. Whether they were on your website or someone else's, you can use that information to serve them with ads that are even more relevant to their interests.

Should I use behavioral targeting in my marketing?

I'll be honest, this strategy is a little controversial, and it may not be the best place to start if you're new to target marketing. It's a powerful tool but requires a certain level of expertise to use effectively. In fact, I'd recommend leaving this one to the professionals until you feel really comfortable with it.

That being said, if you're ready to take your marketing to the next level, behavioral targeting is definitely worth exploring. It can help you reach the right people with the right message, and that's the key to success in today's crowded digital marketplace.

So there you have it - a quick overview of behavioral targeting and how it can help you take your marketing to the next level. As always, if you have any questions or need help implementing this strategy, feel free to reach out to me at DIYMarketingStrategies.com.
